My Argos Card Security Tips & Information

At Argos Card we take your account security very seriously. Here's a few tips and bits of security information that you might find useful.

INTERNET SAFETY TIPS

  • Don't tick "Remember my Login ID" if you're using a shared computer.
  • Make sure that the URL of this website starts www.myargoscard.co.uk – if you notice that it’s changed to a similar but different URL (e.g. www.my-argos-card.co.uk) then don't log in and let us know immediately.
  • Don't give anyone your login details
  • Make sure that your security is working – e.g. if you're using a PC, laptop or Mac make sure that you have updated and reliable virus software to make sure that you're protected at all times on the internet
  • Make sure your browser is up to date – out of date browsers can sometimes be insecure due to security exploits or bugs.

PAYMENTS

When you connect to our payment system, your session is encrypted. Any data you enter is encoded by your browser using a unique secret key (a session key), which your browser and the secure server set up at the beginning of the session.

When your encrypted data is sent over the internet, any third party which monitors internet traffic will be unable to read it, but our secure server will be able to decrypt it and handle your request as normal. The same encryption also occurs when we display screens back to you. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for managing your encrypted session and 128 bit encryption, which is why the latest versions of web browsers are needed to register for and use this service.

You'll also see a padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, which confirms your session is secure (padlock positions may vary dependant on your browser – always make sure that one is showing though whenever you are using secure sites).

CONTACTING YOU

We do not send emails or SMS messages requesting account or credit/debit card information from our customers. We therefore advise caution over any email or SMS requests that appear to have come from Argos Card that ask for account information.

We will never:

  • Ask for your personal information in an email or SMS
  • Ask you to tell us any of your login details via email, SMS or over the phone
  • Ask for your banking information online unless you're making a payment
  • Ask for you to give your account or credit/debit card information via email or SMS
  • Ask for personal information for "security reasons" in an email or SMS
  • Ask you to "update personal details" by clicking on a link in an email or SMS - never update any details unless you know you've logged into the website or App (i.e. make sure you've entered all your normal login details and passwords etc, and be sure that you've read those Internet Safety tips above).
